Creative Learning Processes in Music

The group works on research related to creative learning processes in music. The topic is relevant to learning processes among staff, students, and external actors who may be contacted or engaged through practice fields. The research group aims to increase research activity within the academic environment and, more specifically, to contribute to the field through publication and dissemination. Research studies will be conducted by academic staff at HVO, with varying levels of involvement from external researchers.

Objectives

  • To increase research activity within the academic environment through projects, publication, and dissemination.
  • To contribute to the development of the research field through academic seminars, publications, and conference contributions.
  • To publish a joint publication on creative learning processes in music.

 Activities

The group serves as a forum for creative processes in music and is also open to various interdisciplinary synergies. The work involves contextual analysis, often linked to theoretical and methodological issues. In 2024, the group held two exciting writing seminars on the theme of improvisation, one in Loen in June and another in Fosnavåg in December. The outcome of this work will hopefully be presented at the Grieg Research School conference in Volda in June 2025, where the group will also actively participate, including delivering a keynote presentation.
The group has contributed to internationally recognized journals and presented at international conferences. Members are part of research networks such as the Grieg Research School (GRS) and are active in working groups and professional presentations at conferences. The group also maintains ties with international institutions, such as the Queensland Conservatory, Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia, through a guest researcher stay in 2023/24 by one of the members.
The group provides financial support for seminars or conferences relevant to its research focus and aims to integrate more master’s and PhD students into the group.
