Grant Harman: The Role of Higher Education Institutions and Management Strategies to Promote this Aspect.
In this introduction, Harman discusses the place of regional higher education institutions in Australia, the main forms of internal organisational models that have been adopted by regional universities, some of the contributions that regional institutions make to their communities, and some of the most succesful student enrolment growth and income enhancement strategies used by regional universities.

Kay Harman: Merging Separate Campus Cultures into a Coherent Educational Community: Challenges for Managers
Kay Harman addresses in this introduction issues that managers must face in institutions that have formed from the merging of separate and different campus cultures. Drawing examples from mainly Australian post-merger institutions, greater attention is paid to strategies that have been used by these institutions to create a common culture of attitudes and conditions related to teaching and research.
