Thinking with Art: Emotion, Memory, and the Body Symposium 

The mind is often thought of as equivalent to the brain: but it is just not as simple as that!

This symposium explores, how do the art(s) change our feelings, minds, and bodies? The event includes a visiting talk by Dr Miranda Anderson, University of Edinburgh, titled "Fission Fusion Imagination, Memory and Aesthetics", and a presentation on "Trauma Narratives in Contemporary Feminist Video Art" by Dr Yasemin Hacioglu, Volda University College. The talks will introduce cognitive and narrative theory approaches to exploring culture. After the presentations, we plan for an open discussion about these topics, and welcome participants to discuss their own work in relation to these topics.

The seminar is open to all, and is funded and organised by the interdisciplinary research group Volda MEDVITSFORUM / Consciousness and Cognition. Registration is not necessary, but please send an e-mail if you would like to receive optional, introductory readings about these topics, or to find out more about the research group. You are welcome also to come for just one or both paper (please see time details in the attached poster). There will be a self-paying dinner at Brør mat & bryggeri after the event to continue the discussion; please e-mail Yasemin for dinner booking by 13th November.
